Meet Scott

Scott Cuthbertson
Founder & CEO

Scott Cuthbertson is an innovative leader who’s reshaping how communities and companies approach economic development.
After leading Utah’s statewide economic strategy as President & CEO of the Economic Development Corporation of Utah (EDCUtah), he saw firsthand where traditional models fall short in a fast-changing global economy. That experience, combined with his background in top-tier management consulting and executive experience overseeing major innovative development projects, inspired him to build a new approach—one that gives communities the edge in competing for capital investment and jobs attraction, and that aligns companies with the right communities through deep subject matter expertise, proprietary economic data and artificial intelligence.
At EDCUtah, Scott led the organization in delivering record-breaking results: over $22 billion in capital investment and 20,000 new jobs for the state, and establishing the state's first international economic development office in Asia. Before that, as COO of The Point, a first-of-a-kind innovation community project, he oversaw planning and operations for development of the 16 million square-foot innovation district projected to generate $7.7 billion in annual GDP impact. His earlier career at PwC and Booz Allen Hamilton, in Washington D.C., saw him advising Fortune 100 companies, global investors, and public agencies on complex capital projects across North and South America, Europe, and the Middle East.
Scott holds degrees from Brigham Young University, Georgetown University, and the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School. He’s also the founder of Sterling Capital Partners, a boutique real estate investment firm. Beyond his professional roles, he serves on multiple boards and advisory councils focused on infrastructure, innovation, and economic opportunity.
Scott lives with his wife and three daughters in Utah's Salt Lake City metro area. When he’s not working, you’ll likely find him exploring Utah’s national parks, hiking in the Wasatch Mountains, or planning his next global adventure—he’s traveled to 28 countries with a highlight summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Scott’s mission is simple: help communities and companies win in an increasingly competitive world by rethinking how economic development gets done.
